Transitions, identity & purpose
Life Transitions & Identity Counseling in Brentwood, TN
When the life you planned isn't the life you're living, and you're not sure who you are now. Counseling for seasons of change, burnout, and big questions.
Seasons that shake our sense of self
Transitions can be chosen or unwanted, and both can be disorienting:
- Career changes, layoffs, or burnout
- Marriage, divorce, becoming a parent, or an empty nest
- Moving, or leaving a community
- Changes in faith or personal beliefs
- Grief over dreams or expectations that didn't happen
Identity beyond what you do
For a lot of people, especially in a city like Nashville full of creatives and high achievers, identity gets fused with work. When that work changes, it can feel like losing yourself. Therapy is a place to ask who you are underneath the role, and what you want to build from here.
Why this work is personal for Tyler
Before becoming a therapist, Tyler spent years as a touring musician and songwriter in Nashville. Leaving that life and stepping into a new one gave him firsthand understanding of how disorienting, and how meaningful, a major transition can be.
In sessions, he'll help you slow down, name what you're grieving, notice the values that are emerging, and take steps that feel true to you rather than to others' expectations.
Frequently asked questions
Is therapy useful if nothing is 'wrong,' I just feel stuck?
Yes. Feeling stuck or directionless is one of the most common reasons people start counseling.
Does Tyler work with musicians and creatives?
Yes. Tyler especially enjoys working with creatives wrestling with identity, pressure, and burnout, drawing on his own years as a touring musician.
